Ghana Leadership Union demands Attitudinal Change in Governance

The Ghana Leadership Union (GLU) has called on the government to change its “failing” leadership style to remedy the falling living standards of persons in the country.

In a statement released today, and copied to ghananewsonline.com.gh, the group added its voice to that of OccupyGhana in demanding accountability from government, in response to findings that some key healthcare logistics – ambulances and hospitals, have been abandoned by authorities.

The GLU is urging the government to accordingly “crack the whip” on all incompetent public officials in order to protect the interests of its citizens.

FINANCIAL LOSS: Ambulances, Buses, Hospitals, Housing and Government Assets Sitting Idle

Let me take this opportunity to congratulate and thank OccupyGhana for taking this initiative (Press Release of Nov.17, 2019), to analyze this Ambulance embarrassment in our Government and nation and to make a comment on behalf of Ghana Leadership Union (GLU).

The biggest impact and expectation of any leadership in Ghana, as I found in my research, is concern for the people, and followed by how the resources of the nation are managed and used to provide needed services.

While some of our GLU members like this writer as the International President, lives mostly outside, we cannot help but compare and note our peoples’ common humanity with Americans.

Why these issues of emergency care have been resolved and managed smoothly by Private and Public partnership as part of the American towns and cities’ normal routine life, it is sad often to compare notes and watch Ghana.

We Ghanaians use the same method of raising Government revenue to pay officials- the taxation system- as Americans do to manage.

Once the President and/or Government leadership have set the policy and budget, the rest is simple hiring the right people, assigning the duties, with completion times, and “crack the whip”, so to speak, to get the job done!

The process of getting this done is defined as managerial competence and based on experience.

The one advice GLU can offer the President Nana Akufo-Addo and his Government is to hire people with proven experiences from around the global Ghanaian community. Any President is judged by results and not by mere utterances and even effort! No! The President of Ghana has made many bold vision statements and even attracted international commentary. The rest is left to implementation.

This means the President must give deadlines to his many utterances and vision statements and have his secretary or Chief of Staff help remind him and to push to get the job done and hold Project managers, Ministers or Directors responsible.

Let everybody work hard for their living and what the taxpayer provides them.
The people of Ghana have suffered for about half a century under leadership many have described as greedy and selfish.

People get tired of inefficiency and seeing Government workers who don’t seem to care and seem to want to maintain the status quo as things are falling apart. This is especially so while government wastes money with incomplete housing and health facilities and projects, poor incomplete roads, broken water systems, poor electricity delivery, and neglected environment that produce mosquitoes and insects that cause malaria and other diseases. The handling of these ambulances for serving needed towns and communities becomes a glaring example of a failed system or state.

In all leadership failure of management can lead to disaster. GLU takes this opportunity to add our voice to that of OccupyGhana and other groups demanding change. It is about time Ghana set a good example in managing our nation as the leading stars of Africa and the black race.
