Ghana needs an Independent Electoral Commission, Judiciary and President

Special Aid to former president John Dramani Mahama, Lawyer Joyce Bawah Mogtari has called for total independence in the Judiciary, Parliamentary and the Executive aims of government.

She explained that an independent Electoral Commission (EC), independent Judiciary, an independent Auditor General and a President who respect the constitution of the country are the major key elements to build a better Ghana.

The Lawyer believes governmental institutions in the country lack transparently, free and fair due to political interference.

She maintained that to achieve long-term stability and economic growth, Ghana needs strong governmental institutions that deliver public services transparently and with accountability.

“To build the Ghana we want together will require an Independent EC, an independent Judiciary, an independent Auditor General and a President who respects the constitution.” Joyce Bawah Mogtari tweeted.

Her comment comes after the National Communication Officer for the opposition NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, has accused the ruling NPP and the Electoral Commission of plotting to insert the name of an unqualified candidate into the voters’ register for the Assin North constituency.

In a statement, the NDCs Communication Officer claimed that the ruling party, in collaboration with the EC, plans to transfer and insert Charles Opoku’s name into the voters’ register, despite him not being a registered voter in the Assin North constituency.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission of Ghana has denied claims by Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), that it is in bed with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to commit an illegality.

The EC explained that the claims by the leading member of the NDC that it is, together with the NPP, attempting to smuggle in the name of someone in Assin North, is completely falsehood.

“The Electoral Commission’s attention has been drawn to a misleading press statement attributed to the National Communications Officer of the NDC alleging collaboration between the NPP and the EC for the purpose of transferring the vote of one Charles Opoku to the Assin North Constituency to enable him contest the upcoming by-election in the said constituency.

“We wish to state that this is not true,” the EC statement said.

Former Auditor General Daniel Yao Domelevo has reacted to the Supreme Court ruling which described as null and void his forced leave orchestrated by the Presidency.

In a Citi News interview, Mr. Domelevo slammed the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for disrespecting the law.

The Supreme Court gave the ruling on Wednesday, saying the decision by President Akufo-Addo to force Domelevo to embark on an extended leave was unconstitutional.

In 2020, Domelevo was compelled by the presidency to take 169 working days of accumulated leave.
