Government is expected to spend a little over $200 million in the procurement of Covid-19 vaccines for the immunization of Ghanaians against the coronavirus disease.
Speaking in an interview, Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, noted the price of vaccines presently available for the country’s immunization agenda ranges between $4 and $20.
The goal is to vaccinate every Ghanaian and presently we are in excess of $200 million,” he stated, adding that the GHS is opting for readily available vaccines to ensure that the vaccination process is not prolonged.
President Akufo-Addo in his 21st televised address to the nation on measures taken by the government to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country, announced that Ghana will in the first half of 2021 take delivery of its first badge of Covid-19 vaccines.
According to the president, the two readily available Covid-19 vaccines are those manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech and AstraZeneca.
Meanwhile, some 790 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed by the GHS pushing the country’s active cases to 7,509.
The country’s death toll has now risen to 505.
Seventy-four thousand three hundred and forty-seven (74,347) cases have so far been confirmed with 66,333 recoveries recorded.
