Ghanaians must join NDC to resist controversial declaration of Akufo-Addo as President-elect
The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called on Ghanaians to join the NDC to resist the controversial declaration of President Akufo-Addo as President-elect in the 2020 elections.
At a press conference in Accra, Mr. Asiedu Nketia reiterated the NDC’s rejection of the Electoral Commission’s (EC)’s declaration pointing out that it was fraudulent.
He reveals that after the collation of the results, the EC realized that the NDC had won the Parliamentary elections with 140 out of the 175 seats in the Legislature and that in the Presidential election, the worst-case scenario for the NDC was that it was going to go for a run-off.
According to him, the EC had two options – to confirm that the NDC had indeed won majority seats in Parliament and declare a run-off or declare some places won by the NDC for the NPP as the government used brute force to enforce the EC’s fraudulent declaration.

According to him, the EC chose the second option, hence the controversy over five constituencies that the NDC had won in both the Parliamentary and Presidential elections.
The constituencies are Upper Denkyira West, Techiman South, Sefwi Wiawso, Tarkwa Nsuayem and Sene West. Upper Denkyira West and Zabzugu he points out, have since been declared for the NDC after ordinary citizens stood up and policed the ballot boxes.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia called on citizens to rise and defend the ballot in Zabzugu, Tarkwa Nsuayem and Sefwi Wiawso.
He reveals the NDC has intelligence that National Security is apprehensive about the likelihood that the remaining outstanding constituencies will be declared for the NDC and this will increase the Parliamentary seats of the NDC and also increase the votes of the party’s presidential candidate, form er President John Mahama.
Consequently, he said, the National Security apparatus has gone on the ground trying to bribe and threaten NDC agents to sign fictitious pink sheets.
However, he said that action will not work because the NDC already has all the pink sheets that show it won majority seats in Parliament and prove that Nana Akufo-Addo did not win the presidential election.
He, therefore, urged citizens and supporters of the NDC in the various constituencies where the declaration of the results are outstanding to rise and defend the ballots.
Meanwhile, in Tarkwa Nsuayem, Zabzugu and Sefwi Wiawso where the EC had later declared that the NPP’s Candidates had won without collation, Mr. Asiedu Nketia demanded that the returning officers for those constituencies return and have the results collated.
He warned that the laws require that results are only declared after collation and therefore the declaration of the results without collation is illegal.
