Executive Director of Star Ghana Foundation, Amidu Ibrahim-Tanko, has called on Ghanaians to prioritized the development of the country by contributing financial resources to fund and accelerate the pace of development as donor funding declined.
Star Ghana Foundation which is now a wholly owned and inspired Ghanaian organization also appealed to Ghanaian corporate organizations to contribute to the development of the country by identifying areas of developmental concern while putting pressure on State actors to expedite action on their campaign promises to develop the nation.
Despite the challenges encountered by Star Ghana in its bid to educate Ghanaians on the need to own the development of the country, the Executive Director of Star Ghana Foundation said, his outfit had made significant stride and was hopeful that Ghanaians would appreciate the need to contribute their quota to the development of the country .
Speaking at the first Annual General Meeting of Star Ghana subscribers in Accra, Mr. Amidu Ibrahim- Tanko said “the time has come for Ghanaians to prioritize and own the development of the country and make provision for it rather than looking up to somebody somewhere who would not benefit from the country’s development to bring resources to develop the country. We have to be accountable for our own development.”
Asked if there was pressure on Star Ghana Foundation from foreign donors to invest their donations in a specific area which is not in consonant with the vision of the organization hence the call on Ghanaians and its corporate organizations to fund the development of the country, Mr. Amidu Ibrahim-Tanko said, it was time for Ghanaians to prioritize the development of the country and contribute resources to bridge the development gap.
Dr. Charles Abugre, the Vice Chairperson of Star Ghana Foundation in his delivery said his outfit decided to transition from Star Ghana programme to a Foundation because after many years of receiving support from donors under the then leadership of Professor Akilagpa Sawyerr and now under the leadership of Dr. Ofei Aboagye, a committee was formed which was led by Justice Emile Short tasked to fashion out a roadmap to Star Ghana Foundation.
The committee, he adds, decided it was important to create a programme with a national outlook and not a donor inspired programme anymore hence the birth of Star Ghana Foundation.
Launched in November, 2019, Star Ghana Foundation was created to encourage the voices of civil society on pertinent national matters and also to encourage local philanthropy to find ways of mobilizing Ghanaians and local businesses to contribute in support of either community projects or big projects to reduce poverty.
