Give us our lands – Leaders of Coalition of La Associations tell government

Spokesperson for the La Associations, Jeffrey Tetteh, wants government to hand over their lands and compensate them.

The Coalition of La Associations and Ga Adangme Coalition against Land Injustice have given the government a two-week ultimatum to order the Minister of Defence to release their lands to them.

They contend that failure to release the lands will compel them to occupy the “Kpletso” lands to start development in September.

The La traditional authority and the youth demonstrated to protest what they described as unethical seizure of stool lands.

Hundreds, predominantly youth, marched from the La Market Complex through the township to present their petition to the President at the flag staff house.

After a peaceful protest, the leaders presented their petition to the Deputy Chief of Staff, Emmanuel Adumuah-Bossman.

Spokesperson for the La Associations, Jeffrey Tetteh, wants government to hand over their lands and compensate them.

“People of La have over the years called on successive governments, including your administration, to ensure that some of these lands are released to the people of La. It is our humble expectation that our request will be given the utmost priority within the next couple of weeks”, he stated.

He reiterated plans to embark on series of protest if they don’t hear from the government soon, “we have informed the police of a series of demonstrations and other actions should we not get some favourable response in the next two weeks”, he said.

The Deputy Chief of Staff Emmanuel Adumuah-Bossman, acknowledged the group’s compliance to order and promised action on their petition.

“I will relay this information to the president. If the president has given a directive or an order, it is to be implemented as he has directed. So I will draw his attention and what needs to be done, I’m sure it will be addressed”, he assured.
