GJA calls on Attorney General to speed up Ahmed Suale case
Despite the five years that have passed since Suale’s murder, Dwumfour expressed frustration over the lack of progress in the case. “As an association, we shall continue to put pressure on state authorities to demand justice for Ahmed Suale,” he asserted.
Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has urged the Attorney General to take swift action on the Ahmed Suale murder case, which has faced significant delays over the years.
Dwumfour’s appeal follows a recent incident in which three journalists were attacked, leading to a media blackout on certain political figures. Speaking at the GJA’s 75th Anniversary Lecture in Ho, Dwumfour highlighted that the GJA will continue to pressure state authorities for justice for Ahmed Suale.
He also called for increased government collaboration with the GJA to ensure the safety and security of journalists in Ghana. “In 2024 alone, the GJA imposed a media blackout on key state personalities due to attacks on three journalists while they were on duty,” Dwumfour said. “Let me use this anniversary lecture to call on the government and authority to intensify its collaboration with the GJA in ensuring the safety and security of journalists in Ghana.”
Emphasizing the ongoing issues, he noted, “We also wish to use this platform to appeal to the Attorney General to start expediting action on the Ahmed Suale murder case, a single issue that keeps affecting the position of the media on the World Press Freedom Index.”
Despite the five years that have passed since Suale’s murder, Dwumfour expressed frustration over the lack of progress in the case. “As an association, we shall continue to put pressure on state authorities to demand justice for Ahmed Suale,” he asserted.
He concluded by urging the public to assist the police with any information related to the case. “The media cannot thrive without the support of the public. As a result, we call for collaboration in this regard as we work to address our developmental challenges.”
