GJA’s Albert Dwumfuor Awarded for his Contributions to Peace in Ghana
President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, has been recognized for his contributions to Peace and Justice in Ghana. He was among the few people who were identified and awarded at the 12th Dialogue and Peace Iftar Dinner organized by TUDEC – an international development and humanitarian organization with support from the Peace Council and the Ghana Government.
Dwumfuor’s award was for his unwavering efforts and support towards justice for journalists andedia practitioners in Ghana.
In his remarks after receiving the award, the Albert Dwumfuor appreciated the recognition of his efforts by TUDEC and the Peace Council. He assured that the current leadership of the Journalists Association will continue to work to improve the country’s delicate democracy.
He emphasized the need for journalists to be circumspect in the discharge of their duties of educating and informing the public, and avoid the promotion of hate speach and misinformation, among others.
He also urged journalists in the Country to always double check their facts before publications to prevent any form of tension before, during and after the elections in December.
“This current leadership of the GJA will make sure our members discharge their duties professionally and set standards, thus our call,” Dwumfuor emphasized.
The tough-talking president insisted that the current leadership will not condone any form of unprofessionalism from journalists, adding that, that was what informed the Association’s condemnation of some unethical conducts of some journalists during the recent demise of the Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for the Ejisu Constituency, John Kumah.
Dwumfour further cautioned dishonourable politicians to desist from attacking journalists during the elections or face the fierce consequences that may follow from the Association.
The 12th Dialogue and Peace – Iftar Dinner is an annual event of TUDEC and the Ghana Peace Council where various faith and religious organizations meet to deliberate over issues of Peace and national cohesion over a meal.
Running mate to the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 Elections, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, in a brief comment applauded the efforts of TUDEC in constantly organizing the peace dialogue for Ghanaians to deliberate about their contributions to a peaceful Ghana.
She called on all persons to appreciate the peace that the country is enjoying and eschew any form of violence.
“As we get ready for this year’s election, let us all individually play our part to ensure that peace prevails before, during and after the elections. A peaceful Ghana is in the interest of all of us,” she stated.
