The Administrator for the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Lawyer Irene Naa Torshie Addo, has been honored by the Ghana Women of the Year Awards, organized by Glitz Africa, for her immense contribution to governance and outstanding performance in the political arena over the years.

The recognition underscores her exceptional commitment to leadership and fostering growth and interfaith among the youth and the vulnerable in society.

Irene Naa Torshie Addo is a lawyer by profession, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and a member of Parliament for Tema West Constituency.

In her acceptance speech, the awardee passionately urged women to step into leadership roles and take their rightful place in politics.

“It’s time for more women to join politics and demand greater representation on Ghana’s political landscape – We need women who are not afraid to challenge the status quo and push for meaningful change,” she said while expressing gratitude to President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for their continued support for women in various fields.

Mrs Torshie-Addo dedicated her award to her children, particularly her two daughters, and offered an emotional apology for the times her political commitments took her away from them.

She applauded the organizers of the awards event for the recognition, saying it will serve as a motivation to continue to serve the country.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Glitz Africa, organizers of the event, Claudia Kwarteng Lumor in her welcome address, shared her thoughts on the significance of the event, noting that the awards not only celebrated the extraordinary achievements of women but also served as a call to action for future generations.

“The Ghana Women of the Year Honours was born out of a vision to bring more to women’s recognition and to celebrate the brilliance, resilience, and leadership of women. It is a space where we will shine as prospects for women who are making a significant impact in their fields, uplifting others and setting a standard of excellence for generations to come,” Kwarteng Lumor said.

She added: “Each honouree tonight represents not only the personal journey of hard work, sacrifice, and determination but also the collective strength and empowerment of women in Ghana and beyond,” she remarked.

The night also celebrated other inspiring and remarkable women who have made significant contributions to their fields.

Among them were Nana Krobea Asante, Prof. Angela Owusu-Ansah, Patricia Poku-Diaby, Mrs. Tucci Ivowi, and Dr. Dzifa Dey.

The rest are Dr. Mavis Owureku-Asare, Mrs. Femi Asante, Portia Gabor, Madam Enyonam Ansah, Abigail Dromo, and Nelly Hagan.

Held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Palm Convention Center, the 9th annual Ghana Women of the Year Honours was a grand affair, attended by many prominent personalities.

It was a night to remember, one that highlighted the power and potential of women in shaping the future of Ghana and beyond.
