An Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) Madam Helen Akanlase, the Nkoranza North District Fire Officer has urged farmers in the area to handle fire carefully to avoid the outbreak of bush and wildfires.

She said bushfires caused extensive damages to farm produce in the last farming and dry seasons, saying as the dry season approaches, there was the need for palm wine tappers, hunters, and smokers to be careful about handling naked fire to prevent the destruction of lives and properties.

ADO Akanlase entreated farmers to prepare fire belts around their farms and emphasised that they must seek support from personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service or Fire Volunteers before they set fire in their farms.

The District Fire Officer also called on community fire volunteers to intensify patrols and effectively check activities of group hunters in the area.
