GNFS cautions the public against walking, riding, or driving in rain for safety
He further advised parents not to let their children sleep close to walls, especially in mud houses, and to avoid passing wires under carpets, as these practices can be hazardous.
In order to safeguard lives and property during the rainy season, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has advised the public to avoid walking, riding, or driving in the rain.
In an interview with the media today, ADO 1 Alex King Nartey from the GNFS communications department expressed concern over the tendency of people to rush home through the rain rather than seek safer shelter.
He highlighted several dangers, including the risk of being struck by flying objects, falling electrical wires or poles, and impaired visibility.
ADO 1 Alex King Nartey also advised the public, especially parents, to always switch off all electrical gadgets when leaving the house. He emphasized that electrical fittings should ideally be checked before the onset of the rainy season.
As the rains intensify, walls can become wet and weaker, increasing the risk of electrocution if electrical connections are not properly maintained, Nartey warned. Power fluctuations can cause sparks in sockets, potentially leading to fires.
He further advised parents not to let their children sleep close to walls, especially in mud houses, and to avoid passing wires under carpets, as these practices can be hazardous.
ADO 1 Alex King Nartey urged the public to call the GNFS emergency line at 112 in case of disaster.
