Gospel Musician scams Medical Doctor, Others
"Ever since I sent the money to Apaase, I don't hear from him again. He doesn't reply to my texts nor does he return my calls".
An upcoming contemporary gospel music singer is believed to have defrauded several people in Ghana, including a medical doctor and some other people of influence. He is currently on a sprawl and indications are that several more people are likely to fall prey to his antics.
Apaase Atote, popularly known as Apaase, also claims to be a businessman and deals in home-used laptops.
According to one of the victims, he had bought a laptop from Apaase about three years ago which led him to introduce two of his friends to him (Apaase) and they became friends afterwards.
“He sends me pictures of laptops occasionally, but on 6th July, 2023, I saw a particular laptop on his WhatsApp status which I showed interest in. I contacted him but after having a short chat I couldn’t make payment because I didn’t have the amount he mentioned”, the doctor said.
“On the 13th of July, 2023, Apaase sent me some pictures of another laptop HP ELITE BOOK FOLIO 9480 (Used) and quoted GH¢1,900.00. We bargained and agreed that I pay GH¢1, 500.00 for it,” he went on.
“Later that day, Apaase sent me a screenshot of another person who had made payment for one of the laptops and advised that if I could make payment on that day, he would send both laptops at once since they were both coming to the same destination. I am in Bolgatanga,” the victim added.
The victim said he immediately sent an amount of GH¢1,500.00 to Apaase which he later confirmed receipt but Apaase failed to redeem his side of the agreement that day.
“Ever since I sent the money to Apaase, I don’t hear from him again. He doesn’t reply to my texts nor does he return my calls”.
Apaase had later contacted the victim on Sunday, 16th July, 2023 with an excuse that he had encountered a problem which caused the delay in the delivery. He however promised to send the laptops the following day, but again, he failed.
“I later texted him to make a refund of my money since he isn’t sending the item but he still didn’t respond,” he emphasized.
He said, later, another victim contacted him saying Apaase had told him he would be sending two laptops from Accra to Bolga since he also made payment for a laptop.
“Looking at this, I think Apaase had scammed the second victim too using the format he used on me. I used my wife’s phone to chat and pretended to be buying a laptop and he was responsive,” the first victim concluded.
According to the victims, Apaase claims to be a resident of Adenta – a suburb of Accra but is a native of Bolgatanga in the Upper East region.
Some of his ‘popular’ songs include Trust, Picture, Not Mad at You, among others.
The general public is advised to be on the lookout for Apaase Atote.
