Government must wake up to its Responsibilities

NATIONAL WATCH, a Public Interest Advocacy Platform unreservedly condemns the growing cases of loitering in town and disappearance of both suspected and actual COVID-19 patients from Mandatory Quarantine/Isolation facilities.

NATIONAL WATCH had expected that Government, since the time the initial cases of disappearance/loitering were brought to its attention, was going to be swift to prevent future disappearances by beefing up security at all Mandatory Quarantine facilities. To our utter shock, that is not the case.

As we speak, a Nigerian national, Simon Okafor who is one of the 7 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 in the Upper West region has reportedly absconded from the facility where there being kept, endangering the lives of the people in the area.

So also is the reckless conduct of others including Nigerians in Mandatory Quarantine in Denu, Ketu South Municipality in the Volta Region for which the local people threatened to attack them and had to take the Assembly Man of the Area to intervene.

NATIONAL WATCH would like to renew its call on the Government to rise up to its responsibilities in this matter including ensuring maximum security at the facilities and to fast track investigations in the circumstances of the disappearances and to have the culprits severely punished.
