The government has successfully restructured the legacy debt owed to Independent Power Producers (IPPs), addressing a significant issue that had jeopardized their continued operations. This strategic move is intended to foster sustainability in the energy sector and help maintain a stable electricity supply.

 

Herbert Krapa, the Minister of State at the Energy Ministry, emphasized the positive impact of this debt renegotiation, stating that it positions Ghana for future success. In a related update, ECG Managing Director Samuel Dubik Mahama refuted allegations that the new smart meters being deployed are intended to exploit customers. These allegations arose after numerous complaints about the consumption rates associated with the smart meters being installed as part of the Loss Reduction Programme (LRP).
