GOVERNMENT TO ALLOCATE FUNDS FOR COMPLETION OF ANOMABO FISHERIES COLLEGE

The government has announced plans to allocate funds for the completion of the Anomabo Fisheries College project, which has been stalled for several years.

President John Dramani Mahama made the announcement during a visit on thursady to the project site in the Central Region.

He explained the importance of completing the project to promote sustainable fishing practices and aquaculture.

The President, therefore, instructed the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, to work with the Finance Minister to secure funding for the completion of the Anomabo Fisheries College in the Central Region.

The project, initiated during the regime of late president John Atta Mills, was abandoned for 8 years by the immediate past New Patriotic Party (NPP)) government.

The college, designed to accommodate at least 300 students, aims to promote sustainable fishing practices and aquaculture education.

He noted that only minimal work, including furniture, teaching materials, and campus roadwork, remains to be done.

The President sebsequently directed the Fisheries Minister to collaborate with the Finance Minister to allocate necessary funds for the project’s completion.

The Finance Minister is expected to present the budget in Parliament this March.

On her part, the sector mminister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur noted that upon completion of the project, the Anomabo Fisheries College will become a hub for fisheries education and training that would benefit both Ghanaian and foreign students from the sub-region.
