Gov’t declares Wednesday, March 6 Public Holiday

This year’s national anniversary celebration will be held at the Youth Resource Centre in Koforidua in the Eastern Region, however, this year’s celebration is on the theme “Our Democracy, Our Pride.”

The Interior Ministry has officially declared Wednesday, March 6th, 2024, as a statutory public holiday nationwide in commemoration of Ghana’s 67th Independence Day.

In a statement released on March 1, 2023, Minister for the Interior, Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, urged all Ghanaians to observe the day.

“The general public is hereby informed that Wednesday, 6th March 2024 which marks Independence Day, is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country”, Henry Quartey stated.

This year’s national anniversary celebration will be held at the Youth Resource Centre in Koforidua in the Eastern Region, however, this year’s celebration is on the theme “Our Democracy, Our Pride.”

Ghana celebrates Independence Day to mark the country’s freedom from colonial rule, sovereignty and the bloodshed and toiled by our Forefathers.

However, on March 6, the public is encouraged to observe that day as a statutory holiday while they hold various activities such as Parades, flag-raising ceremonies and cultural performances to foster patriotism and unity.
