A Deputy Minister for Information, Pius Enam Hadzide, has pointed out that the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has no interest in the creation of the Oti Region from the current Volta Region.
The Deputy Minister made this statement in Abotia in the Ho West District during the Assembly’s 5th Town Hall meeting held this year.
“I must state that the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has no parochial interest in the creation of new regions in the country which the proposed Oti Region to be created from the Volta Region is not exception,” Pius Hadzide stated.
According to the Deputy Minister it was a request laid before government by some concerned people from the affected regions with the aim of fast tracking developmental projects to every conner of the country. He said the political parties including the NPP and the NDC bought into the idea and compaigned with it, promising to create such regions after when they win power in view of the fact that such action would be within the laws of the country.
“This is the same as creating new District Assemblies from an existing MMDAs, the people have to request and then government conducts it’s investigation and then create the district Assembly in line with the requirement of the constitution of Ghana,” he stated.
Pius Enam Hadzide discredited the impression created by some critics that due diligence was not taken saying
“the Akufo-Addo government working through the Ministry of Regional Reorganisation headed by Dan Botwe are diligently working in line with the Constitution and has made the necessary consultations needed”.
He advised critics to stop distracting the people demanding for the region and their share of the national cake interms of development.
The Deputy Minister ceased the opportunity to highlight some policies introduced by the Akufo-Addo’s government which includes the most applauded Free SHS, the planting for food and jobs, the 1D1F, planting for export, the Nation Builders Corps which has absorbed some 100,000 unemployed graduates, the One million dollar per constituency project, among others,.
He said “most of this projects have hit the road running and we as a government believe we are on the right path transforming our mother country.
“I wish to appeal to all Ghanaians to rally their support behind the Akufo-Addo’s government as he lead us to the promised land”.
