Kwame Gyau, a local barber, expresses the exasperation of many whose livelihoods depend on uninterrupted electricity.
“Fueling the generator daily without commensurate returns is disheartening,” he shares, highlighting the economic strain caused by the erratic power supply.
Maa Tee, a cold store operator, underscores the impact on small businesses, emphasizing the need for transparency and practical solutions from the government.
“We need a clear timetable to navigate these challenges,” she asserts, criticizing the lack of decisive action from authorities and government
Even local establishments like Neighbourhood and Bauxite City pubs bear the brunt of the crisis, grappling with soaring operational costs amid dwindling patronage.
According to them, the ECG’s power rationing makes it extremely expensive to run their diesel generators daily.
Mr. Amartey, a pensioner, sheds light on the dire consequences for vulnerable groups, including those with health conditions, exacerbated by prolonged power cuts.
“The situation is even worse when the lights go off in the evening. We sometimes sleep on the veranda outside till the following day. It is a big problem for some of us who are asthmatic to live in a room without air due to the constant electricity power cuts.” Mr. Amartey said.
