Gov’t to Resolve Dispute Between Asanko Gold and Tontokrom Community – Deputy Lands Minister
According to him, this will be one of the legacies of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government in the mining sector.
The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources responsible for Mines, Mr George Mireku Duker, has reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving the dispute between the chiefs and people of Tontokrom and Asanko Gold Ghana.
According to him, this will be one of the legacies of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government in the mining sector.
The ongoing standoff between the community and the company over exploiting gold resources in the area is well documented.
After a series of meetings held at the Ministry, the Deputy Minister embarked on a working visit to the area to engage directly with the company and community leaders to resolve the protracted matter that has been hindering the company’s success and development in the township.
During his visit, he first met with the management of Asanko Gold Ghana to understand the company’s perspective on the issues. He proposed steps the company must take to improve its relationship with the community.
He emphasised the need for a harmonious relationship between the company and the community, stating that unity was the principal ingredient for mutual success for both the company and the community.
In response to the company’s request for an immediate resolution of the deadlock, he assured that the government, through the Ministry, has been engaging the community to allow the company to operate without conflict, and will continue to facilitate the necessary dialogue and security measures to bring finality to the matter.
