The member of Parliament for Bole/Bamboo Yusif Sulemana has described the decision to hand over the Komenda Sugar Factory to a strategic investor as a bad one.
The legislator speaking in an interview with Rainbow Radio’s parliamentary correspondent Philomina Kuntu Blankson said the real deal not a good deal but a horrible one.
He slammed the NPP and accused them of intentionally abandoning the project to depreciate its value.
He said the current government abandoned the factory in order to sell it at a knockdown price to their friends and cronies.
He also added that, in April this year, the Minister of Trade and Industry Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng was invited by the House to update them on the state of the company and also alleged that the company was in a bad state and had depreciated and that it could only be sold at an amount of eleven million ($11m)dollars.
The lawmaker said Ghanaians should now ask what had brought about the change in price from eleven million ($11 dollars) to twenty-two ($22)million dollars in just six months’ time.
Park Aggrotech Company Limited, a subsidiary of the Skylark Group of companies from India won the bid to manage the sugar factory.
On Tuesday officials of the Trade Ministry and PwC introduced the investor to the community and officially handed over the facility to the investor.
Three years since its commissioning, the $35 million factory remains defunct.
This has not gone down well with many Ghanaians, especially, residents of Komenda who were promised jobs and other opportunities when the factory was commissioned.
