Asante Kotoko finally saw a win in their crucial game against FC Samartex in the Ghana Premier League having failed to clinch victory in their previous seven games.

The Porcupine Warriors have been enduring a poor run in the competition, particularly in the second round where they had only managed a win in nine matches.

However, Prosper Narteh Ogum finally led the team to victory against a more difficult opponent FC Samarex.

The league leaders were on a six-game unbeaten run having secured four wins and two draws in including crucial victories against Medeama and Hearts of Oak.

The game continued with determination from both teams who failed to find the net in the first half. The breakthrough moment, however, arrived in the 61st minute when Enoch Morrison converted a penalty to give the Porcupine Warriors the lead.

Several efforts from both sides ended in futility as the 2021/22 champions held on to secure their first win in the league after beating Bibiani Goldstars last month.

While the win wasn’t enough to catapult the Reds into the top half of the league as they sit 10th, the win comes as a crucial boost for a team considered in crisis.

Their poor run prior to the game included a four-game losing streak marking their worst run in 14 years.

The atrocious performance had also triggered fans to disrupt training sessions asking for the dismissal of the coach.

This move compelled the Life Patron and owner of the club Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to summon an emergency meeting to address issues confronting the team.

In response, the win would underscore the significance of such engagement and instill hope in the worried fans.

On the other hand, FC Samartex maintain their lead on the table with 49 points after 27 matches.

While the Timber giants aim to rebound against Great Olympics in their next game, Kotoko will embark on a trip to Tarkwa to face defending champions Medeama SC.
