He said management of GPRTU took up the responsibility and appealed for financial support from indigenous banks in which GCB volunteered to aid the union in the purchase of the buses.

“As we speak, we are expecting about 200 buses but would arrive in tranches. This is the 1st tranche which is 28 in number to be distributed to beneficiaries through the GPRTU secretariat,” he added.

Nanor claimed the buses are monitored through a tracker device at the office and drivers found abusing the regulations like over-speeding and other activities would have their vehicle’s engine blocked and sanctions applied as per the law.

He further said, management is planning to transform the transport sector by changing the normal commercial (trotro) buses to seater buses that can use batteries instead of diesel to operate.

He therefore called on the government to support such initiatives to enable management achieve plans to be undertaken that would transform the transport sector in the country.

The Chief Executive of Ronor Motors, Atta Frimpong advised management of GPRTU to ensure the safety of the buses. He called on them to keep proper maintenance and servicing of the buses and as well check over-speeding of drivers on the road that would ensure the buses are in good shape.
