GTEC Hosts National Tertiary Education Conference in Accra

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has commenced a three-day national dialogue in Accra to enhance the administration and accreditation of tertiary institutions in Ghana. Themed “Transforming Tertiary Education in Ghana,” the conference seeks to foster efficient and effective governance across the sector.

The forum brought together over 400 participants, including university leaders, scholars, researchers, policymakers, students, industry executives, and other key stakeholders. This diverse group is set to engage in a dynamic exchange of ideas, paving the way for meaningful collaboration.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission was established under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), merging the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) and the National Accreditation Board (NAB).

In his speech, GTEC’s Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, highlighted that the conference is not only a space for intellectual discourse but also a platform to forge strategic partnerships. He stressed the need for the dialogue to be followed by decisive action and sustained collaboration among academia, government, industry, and other stakeholders.

Prof. Abdulai also expressed gratitude to the Conference Organizing Committee, acknowledging their six months of dedication to planning, fundraising, content development, and logistics coordination to make the event a success.

At the opening ceremony, the Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upgrading Ghana’s education system to meet 21st-century demands, focusing on critical thinking, problem-solving, and digital literacy. He emphasized that the theme of the conference aligns with Ghana’s and Africa’s aspirations, noting that the continent’s youth are not just future leaders but a driving force for present socio-economic development and global competitiveness.
