Hajia Samira Bawumia fetes Women in Wa

The Second Lady, Hajia Samira Bawumia has reminded Ghanaians that those who are blessed should remember to reach out to the disadvantaged, especially during festive occasions.

She made the observation at the Jubilee Park in Wa when her organisation, Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects presented token gifts to 350 women selected across the Upper West Region.

The beneficiaries included the aged, widows and the physically challenged.

The Second Lady’s not for profit organisation is focused on extending support to women in the areas of health and empowerment as well as supporting the education of young people.

Hajia Samira Bawumia threw light on the annual support for women and other social interventions.

She said, “every end of year, we throw a party to celebrate our hardworking and industrious women across the country. And this year, it is my honour to be in the Upper West Region, Wa to be specific.”

Hajia Samira Bawumia thanked the Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih and MDCEs for making it possible by bringing the beneficiaries to come and partake in the event.

She added that privilege comes with responsibility and “I am always reminded of that.” So our mothers, we will never forget you. As you know government is doing all it can to support you. We have increased LEAP beneficiaries, we have also increased the grand for persons with disability. We are doing a lot of social interventions and it is all geared towards poverty alleviation. We talk about free SHS, and that is also part of poverty alleviation because education is the surest way to get out of poverty. We have introduced a lot of social interventions and it is all to support you or your children as part of building this country. So on behave of the President, his Vice President, the First Lady, I will ask you to pray for our nation, pray for our leaders that they will continue to have the wisdom and empathy to serve this country the way this country deserved to be served.”

Humanitarian Projects

Earlier, Hajia Samira Bawumia paid courtesy calls on the Wa Naa, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo as well as the Regional Chief Iman, Alhaji Osman Mahama Kanihi.

She equally touched base with Fulani community in Upper West and stressed the necessity for a peaceful co-existence, saying “As a Ghanaian, first and foremost I will admonish everybody to continue to live peacefully, to embrace each other, to co-exist with each other because in our diversity we thrive.”

Among the requests made by the Fulani community included the establishment of milk and meat factory in Upper West.

The Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih and MDCEs were on hand to support the Second Lady.
