Head teacher beaten mercilessly for disciplining a student
The headteacher for Kokofu D/A basic school in the Asutifi south district has been beaten to a pulp for disciplining a JHS 1 student.
Confirming the incident to the press, the Asutifi south district director for education, Francis Quansah said his outfit had a distress phone call from teachers of the school to report the incident. “When I got there with my front liners, we saw our Headteacher; Boakye Marfo, lying in a pool of blood in an unconscious state at the school premise” he elaborated.
The District Director recounted how he and his officers took the Headteacher to the Goaso government hospital for early treatment.
A teacher of the school, who refused to give his name said a student, Lukaya Asana came to school at 9:30 am and the headteacher decided to cane her for lateness and truancy to school.
“The student who got furious after the punishment, went to the community to inform her family. Shortly, we saw many angry residents with sticks approaching the school “he added.
According to the teacher, the mob just asked for the Headteacher and began to assault him until officers from the Education Directorate intervened.
The Headteacher has been referred to the Sunyani regional hospital for further treatment.
The Asutifi police command has mounted a search for the people involved.
Meanwhile, the Kokofu D/A basic school has been closed down indefinitely by the Asutifi south district education directorate.
