Hearts of Oak to pocket $10k each day from FIFA after Afriyie Barnie makes Black Stars World Cup squad

“As part of its commitment to recognise the contribution that football clubs make to the successful staging of the FIFA World Cup, today FIFA started the application process for its Club Benefits Programme that will see USD 209 million distributed to clubs across the world.”

Hearts of Oak will receive $10,000 from FIFA each day as Daniel Afriyie Barnie makes the Black Star’s squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as part of FIFA’s Clubs Benefit Programme.

The Club Benefits Programme is part of a broader collaboration agreement between FIFA and the European Club Association, which was first launched ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ and further extended in 2015 to cover both the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups.

FIFA has opened up for clubs to apply through its FIFA Professional Football Landscape for the funds as a form of compensation for  each day players remain in the competition, including official preparation period.

A statement read: “As part of its commitment to recognise the contribution that football clubs make to the successful staging of the FIFA World Cup, today FIFA started the application process for its Club Benefits Programme that will see USD 209 million distributed to clubs across the world.”

This initiative already saw 416 clubs from 63 member associations benefiting from the same amount following the 2018 FIFA World Cup™

According to FIFA the Club Benefits Programme will see USD 209 million distributed to clubs across the world.

The statement further reads that clubs will be able to receive around USD 10,000 for each one of the days the relevant player remains with his national team during the FIFA World Cup 2022 and the official preparation period, which equates to just under £9,000 at the time of writing. All clubs a player has played for in the two years prior to the tournament will be compensated.

Daniel Afriyie Barnie is the only Hearts of Oak player to make Coach Otto Addo’s 26-man squad for the World Cup with his last appearance coming in Ghana’s game against Nicaragua in Spain which they won 1-0.

Ghana will play an international friendly against Switzerland on Thursday, November 17th before flying to Qatar where they open their World Cup campaign against Portugal on November 24, 2022.
