In the early hours of Monday, amidst heavy rainfall, Accra experienced several incidents of trees falling, leading to damage to property and injuries to individuals.

Two persons are currently undergoing treatment at separate hospitals due to trees falling on them during these incidents.

One such incident occurred at the car park of the Landing Restaurant, where a tree fell on a vehicle, resulting in one person being injured and subsequently receiving treatment at the Airport Clinic.

Another alarming incident took place on Monday morning along the Italian Embassy stretch, where a tree fell on both a motorbike and a 4-wheel drive vehicle, leaving one individual in critical condition. The aftermath of this event caused roadblocks in the area, further complicating the situation.

Recalling the harrowing experience, a driver of one of the vehicles involved in the latter incident who spoke anonymously said: “| was just about to get out of my car when I heard the cracking sound. The next thing I knew, the tree crashed down onto the roof of my car. I’m lucky to be alive.”

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service promptly responded to both incidents, highlighting the gravity of the situation. A spokesperson emphasized that multiple reports of tree falls had been received, directly attributed to the heavy rainstorm.

In light of these events, authorities are urging residents of Accra to exercise caution, particularly by avoiding parking near trees during heavy rainstorms to mitigate the risk of similar incidents.
