Today is 28th February; a day remembered for its significance in Ghana attaining independence.

28th February 1948 is the day Major Imray shot and killed three veterans of the Royal West African Frontier Force, namely Sergeant Cornelius Francis Adjetey, Corporal Patrick Attipoe, and Private Odartey Lamptey.

That day triggered the Accra Riots led by the Osu Mantse Nii Kwabena Boni supported by the merchants and market women led by Naa Dedee Ashikishan that ultimately culminated in the peoples’ uprising to demand INDEPENDENCE NOW FROM THE QUEEN through her Governor Sir Gerald Creasy.

The people’s protests lasted five days, by 1st March the colonial governor had declared a state of emergency and put in place a new Riot Act.

The events resulted in the installation of Prime Minister Kwame Nkrumah in 1951 and ultimately becoming the President of Ghana to declare independence on 6th March, 1957 and further proceeded to declare Ghana a Republic on 1st July, 1960.

It is refreshing that President John Dramani Mahama is RESETTING REPUBLIC DAY AS A NATIONAL HOLIDAY after it was downgraded by Akufo-Addo.

Today as we commemorate the 28th February Castle Crossroads Shooting, let’s remember to spare a momemt to support the appointees undergoing Vetting on this historic day.

The first to be vetted today is Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, the member of Parliament for the people of La Dadekotopon followed by Hon. Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui…

Again we must thank President John Dramani Mahama for his strides to ensure women occupy the 30% quota reserved for them in government.

GHANA WILL BE RESET.

Let’s all support the process of renewing our country by being active participants in the RESET GHANA AGENDA.

Let’s all be Citizens and not Spectators.
