“reducing the RCC to a political party office because as the seat of government, the day of the election will even affect government businesses so activities of political parties should be avoided”.

Former Deputy Ashanti Region Minister Joseph Yamin has strongly opposed the Regional Security Council’s decision to host the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) elections at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).

According to the deputy regional minister during the Mills-Mahama administration, conducting partisan activities at the seat of government in the region reduces the government installation to a party office.

Joseph Yamin’s dissenting view on the venue for the NPP regional elections comes after the Ashanti Region Minister , Simon Osei Mensah, in a press briefing, announced that the upcoming regional elections will be hosted at the RCC due to reasons he explained bothered on security issues.

Reacting to the Minister’s stance on siting the RCC for NPP elections, Joseph Yamin took a swipe at Mr Osei-Mensah for what he described as “reducing the RCC to a political party office because as the seat of government, the day of the election will even affect government businesses so activities of political parties should be avoided”.

Mr Yamin also added that holding party activities at the seat of government grossly compromises security which may affect the security of the entire region.

After discounting the Minister’s reasons for such move, Mr Yamin rhetorically asked why the elections will be hosted at the 4BN or the military barracks instead of the RCC if the regional minister is of the view that he senses security will be breached.
