Some teachers [names withheld] have taken the Education Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to the cleaners for suggesting that they have connived with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) top embark on their strike action over their legacy debt.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the teachers slammed the minister and asked him to hold his breath and focus on settling the legacy debt instead of being political with the issue.
Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh claimed credible information available to him suggested that some NDC members met with some teacher groups to plan the strike.
His comment follows a nationwide strike declared by three teacher unions effective Monday, December 9, 2019 over failure of government to pay legacy arrears of members.
They are Ghana National Association of Teachers, National Association of Graduate Teachers and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers.
The aggrieved teachers argue that, the arrears span the period 2012 to 2016 – a situation they described as worrying.
But the aggrieved teachers say the minister goofed by making such comments.
They claimed teachers have not been treated fairly and disrespected despite their service to the nation.
