How MP for Ada Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe swerved NCCE dialogue

The parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ada Constituency, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe, failed to show up for a recent debate organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

The event, held at the Divine Healer’s Church auditorium in Big-Ada, aimed to provide a platform for candidates to engage with constituents. According to Ms Faustina Blewusi, Ada East District Director for the NCCE, the Ada MP had assured her of her presence before the event.

“I personally visited her residence with my officers to inform her about the program. She assured us of her presence and requested that the event be held on weekends due to her parliamentary duties,” Blewusi explained.

However, Doyoe’s absence was notable, and some community members expressed disappointment. They criticized her recent behavior, citing her use of derogatory statements against those who oppose her views.

“She has been insulting people, including referring to the NPP candidate as a lazy child who doesn’t know how to cook. How can an elderly woman speak like that? She has not spoken about what she will do if she wins but only insults people who oppose her views. Can you imagine that she always dyes her hair and wears tight outfits like a slay queen, yet she insults people who respect her?” Mr. Prosper Djaniseh said.

In contrast, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Dornukie Naa Norteye, attended the event and engaged with the audience.

When asked about the MP’s comments, Norteye expressed sadness, stating that she respects Doyoe as a sister and cannot recall saying anything to provoke such comments. Norteye emphasized her commitment to maintaining a clean campaign.

The event highlighted the growing dissatisfaction among constituents with Doyoe’s behaviour. Many youths present at the dialogue seemed poised to change their parliamentary representative. As Ghana prepares for its upcoming elections, the importance of respectful and issue-based campaigning is becoming increasingly clear.
