I joined Great Olympics just for the love of the game – Agyemang- Badu

Former Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has revealed that he turned down two European offers tocGreat Olympics.

According to Agyemang-Badu, he joined Great Olympics “to make the league lovely and to continue enjoying the game I love best.”

The 31-year-old signed a one-year contract with Olympics seven months after leaving Chinese club Qingdao F.C.

“I had some two solid offers [from Europe] that they brought to me but considering some things in the contract I don’t think it was favourable for me. I couldn’t also wait for another offer to come,” he told Joy Sports.

“It was better that I joined a club and work on my ITC (International Transfer Certificate) so that I can be very fit. Training alone and training with a club is different. I had a call from Olympics and I said ‘okay let me think about it.’ I sat down with my team and we thought about it.

“It was a good opportunity for me not to stay at home and be rusty because I haven’t stopped playing football. That is why I joined Olympics – to make the league lovely and to continue enjoying the game I love best.”

Agyemang-Badu made his debut for Great Olympics against Bechem United in the first game of the GHALCA G6 tournament last week.

The midfielder has had a difficult year, but he is determined to regain his former form. He is looking forward to the upcoming season, in which he hopes to play an important role for Great Olympics.

Agyeamang-Badu has played for Asante Kotoko, Berekum Chelsea, Udinese, Bursaspor, and Hellas Verona in the past.

The Seikwa native announced his retirement from international football in 2020 after scoring 11 goals in 78 appearances for Ghana. The U-20 World Cup champion from 2009 represented the Black Stars in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

In 2019, Agyemang-Badu was admitted to a hospital in Italy due to blood clots in his lungs.
