I Look Forward To A Day When We’II Have A Disabled As Prez-Gender Minister

The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection has said she dreams of a future we could have persons living with disabilities to assume the highest office of president.

The minister said persons living with disabilities are equally capable, competent and skilled to hold public office as well as get the opportunity to work in any capacity.

The Minister said just like Ghanaians who are not physically challenges, all persons living with disabilities must be granted equal opportunities to serve if they possess the qualities and qualifications required.

She said persons with disabilities have equal knowledge and qualification to lead this country as able persons are doing since disability is not inability.

She, however, appealed to families of persons with disabilities to send them to school to enable them to acquire basic knowledge that can propel them for the job market.

Hon. Cynthia Mamley Morrison was speaking when the leadership of Charismatic Evangelist Ministry in collaboration with the ministry presented items including mattresses, wheelchairs, food items, rubber buckets, cutlasses and free health screening for over 20,000 persons with disabilities in the Ashanti region.

She added that it would be prudent and reasonably practicable steps to prevent people from behaving in a discriminatory way, against disabled persons at the workplace.

The United States of America has had past presidents who suffered some form of disability.

Washington according to records available, struggled with spelling and grammar.

It’s widely believed that he had a learning disability, specifically dyslexia, and taught himself to correct the problem.

Another former president of the US, James Madison who was referred to as the “Father of the Constitution,” since he purposed the first twelve amendments of the Constitution battled epilepsy his entire life.

His condition is said to have prevented him from going to William & Mary since there were concerns about malaria.

Madison instead went to Princeton and completed the three-year program in just two years.

He also served as the 4th President of the United States of America during the War of 1812.

The founder and head pastor of the church, Reverend SAteve Fred Kyei Mensah said the kind gesture was to show love to the beneficiaries.

He encouraged other churches and other organizations to always donate to the needy in society to make them feel part of society.

He encouraged persons living with disabilities to be confident and be assured they can also transform society with their skills.

The church he hinted is planning to offer special skills training for such individuals by establishing a disability village to train them in basket weaving, fashion designing and others so ”they will become economically independent.”
