Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)  Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to be more accountable than former President John Dramani Mahama if elected in the upcoming December elections.

Dr. Bawumia attributes this promise to his pursuit of an eight-year leadership term, contrasting with Mr. Mahama’s potential four-year term.

During a meeting with various professional groups in Kumasi on Monday (10 June), as part of his three-day campaign tour in the Ashanti Region, Dr Bawumia explained that an eight-year term would necessitate diligent work to justify his initial term and maintain accountability to secure a second term.

“I believe that if you make me president, I will be more accountable to you because I will be looking for an eight-year term. This means I have to work very hard in the first four years to justify why you should give me another four years,” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized that this commitment to accountability is not shared by his main opponent, former President Mahama, who is aiming for a single term. He suggested that a single term would not foster the same level of accountability.

“My main opponent is only looking for a four-year term. Once you give it to him, he will go on his honeymoon, and when he returns, you will not see him again. There will be no accountability. But with me, you will get accountability,” Dr. Bawumia asserted.

He stressed the importance of accountability in leadership, promising to regularly update Ghanaians on his progress and to work tirelessly to earn a second term if elected.
