Former NDC Parliamentary Aspirant for Ayawaso Central, Abdul-Razak Yakubu (ARY), from the Pigfarm Ward has pledged to transform the constituency into a greener, cleaner, and more vibrant urban space if appointed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

The International Development, Political & Governance Consultant, and former Political Advisor to the British High Commission in Accra, made this commitment following his vetting a few weeks ago by the Executive Committee of the Greater Accra Region.

“My vision is to make Ayawaso Central a model of sustainable urban development. We will embark on a green revolution to introduce urban agriculture, create jobs for the youth, and tackle poverty. This initiative will not only beautify our environment but also enhance food security and economic empowerment,” Yakubu stated.

He highlighted the urgent need to address sanitation and drainage challenges, particularly in flood-prone areas like Alajo. “We will construct proper drainage systems to curb the perennial flooding that disrupts lives and businesses. Sanitation will be a top priority, ensuring that our markets, streets, and public spaces remain clean,” he emphasized.

In a bold move to enhance public health and recreation, Yakubu announced plans to introduce parks and open-air gyms across the constituency. “Ayawaso Central lacks recreational spaces, and I intend to change that. Parks and open-air gyms will not only beautify our communities but also promote healthy living and social cohesion,” he explained.

He also underscored the importance of security and lighting in making the constituency safer. “Many areas remain poorly lit, creating a security risk for residents. We will invest in street lighting and community policing to improve safety and peace of mind,” he assured.

Beyond infrastructure and environmental improvements, Yakubu stressed his commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence and interfaith tolerance within the constituency. “Ayawaso Central is a diverse community, and I will work closely with religious leaders and chiefs to promote unity and mutual respect among all residents,” he stated.

Yakubu’s vision aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s broader development agenda of creating jobs, improving urban living conditions, and ensuring sustainable growth. He called on key stakeholders, including the elected Member of Parliament, Hon. Abdul-Rauf Tubazu, Assembly and Unit Committee members, the police, and community leaders, to support his transformative vision.

“If given the opportunity to serve, I will work tirelessly with all stakeholders to make Ayawaso Central a beacon of urban transformation,” he affirmed.
