Election 2020: NPP and NDC are responsible for my Disqualification – Kofi Koranteng

Independent presidential aspirant, Kofi Koranteng has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of influencing the Electoral Commission (EC) to disqualify him from the 2020 election.

He believes that the Electoral Commission was instructed by the criminal enterprises of the NPP and NDC to disqualify him and other candidates from participating in the elections.

In an address to Ghanaians through KOFI TV, Kofi Koranteng alleged that the electoral commission officially cited fraudulent signature on his documents for one region as a reason for his removal from the ballot.

He blamed the EC for refusing to accept corrections he made on his forms.

“They accused me of forgery in submitting these signatures and falsely stated that I admitted to the accusations,” he said.

In October 2020, the electoral commission led by Jean Mensa released names of presidential aspirants who qualified to contest in the upcoming presidential elections.

Five out of the 17 aspirants were disqualified for various iinfringemens including forgery of signatures including and this included Mr. Kofi Koranteng.

According to the EC, the cases of the five aspirants have been forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for further probe.

According to Kofi Koranteng, the NPP and the NDC saw his campaign messages as a threat to their campaign and that was why they used their political powers through their appointees – the EC to disqualify him from the race.

He cited some messages of his campaign as eliminating unnecessary ministries, eliminating ex-gratia, a national infrastructure rebuilding plan, investments in new technology including research and development hubs, a parliamentary implementation of a 20, 30, and 50 year national development plan with timely achievements measure, an equal pension plan for the president, ministers, and all other public sector workers including sanitation officers among other policies.

Kofi Koranteng noted that his manifesto is a detailed plan backed by science and data, and is human centred as it is focused on solving the problems and addresses the needs of the ordinary Ghana.

According to him, the NPP and NDC saw his campaign as the most viable challenge to their ponzy scheme, which leaves Ghanaians poor and hopeless, and that was why they decided through the EC to prevent him from participating in the elections.

He stated also that the political duology in Ghana has led to the exploitation of the country’s resources into the pocket of the few ruling class.

“The NDC and NPP have consistently ignored the plight of Ghanaians while striping Ghana off its wealth to fund their extravagant lifestyle. Under the rule of the corrupt two party system, Ghana is in the ICU,” he added.

He however noted that this move by the EC and the two major parties will not stop his campaign team from pursuing a change in ideas.
