IDUAI: Information is lifeblood to democracy- Fatimatu Abubakar

The Minister for Information, Fatimatu Abubakar, has reminded all that information is the lifeblood of democracy and the bridge between Governments and the governed.

She made the remarks at the closing ceremony of the just-ended two-day Global Conference on International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) in Accra.

In the last two days, participants across the world have explored various means to access information and strengthen citizen engagement, as well as foster sustainable development and social accountability.

Hosted by the government of Ghana and UNESCO on 1-2 October 2024, the theme of the 2024 Global Conference on Universal Access to Information is “Mainstreaming Access to Information and Participation in the Public Sector”.

The two-day global conference featured a high-level panel with several panel discussions to advance access to information.

Madam Abubakar expressed gratitude to UNESCO, the Right to Information Commission, civil society, media partners, and everyone who made the conference a success.

She was optimistic of a future where “access to information will serve as the foundation for a more inclusive, resilient, and empowered society”.
