‘If you’re waiting to be rich before you marry, then your head is not working properly’ – Mensa Otabil
The man of God, who once held the accolade of being the most influential person in Ghana, has charged single individuals not to accumulate wealth first before thinking of marriage.
Pastor Mensa Otabil, the Founder and General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church, has challenged the assertion of financial stability being a prerequisite for marriage.
The man of God, who once held the accolade of being the most influential person in Ghana, has charged single individuals not to accumulate wealth first before thinking of marriage.
In a sermon preached by the pastor which has since gone viral, he said the belief that financial stability is a must before marriage is not true.
Sharing a personal story during the sermon, he explained how he married at a time he had nothing, having had to make some improvises at the time. He said he had to paint a bench white to use as furniture in their home.
“If you’re waiting to be rich before you marry, then your head is not working properly,” Pastor Otabil stated in the viral video.
“You don’t want to marry, but you’re sleeping together. You want what’s reserved for marriage without going through the process. Be bold and marry,” he urged.
Pastor Otabil stressed that the church was ready to bless simple marriages without having to spend on elaborate weddings.
“Set the date. If you’re afraid of a veil, don’t wear one; if you’re nervous about a gown, don’t wear it. Just come to the church office and say, ‘This is the woman I want, and this is the man I want.’ We ask, ‘Do you?’ and you say, ‘I do.’ That’s it. Then, you start planning your life together, and you’ll find that the battles you face become easier to manage,” he concluded.
