Ignore Purported Fare Increment- Transport Operators
They noted that no negotiated fare increment has taken place and directed drivers to continue implementing the existing fares.
The Ghana Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) have directed the public to ignore the purported 15% transport fare increment by some drivers’ unions.
“Our attention has been drawn to news going around in some media houses headlined ‘Transport Operators announce 15% increase in fares effective 2nd November,’” it said in a press statement.
They noted that no negotiated fare increment has taken place and directed drivers to continue implementing the existing fares.
According to the transport operators, the move by the drivers is aimed at courting public disaffection and confusion.
“We hold a strong exception to the publication and have a cause to believe that the publication is being motivated by some individuals whose agenda is to cause disaffection and confusion within the transport operators and generally the commuting public. We are therefore, by this statement, appealing to all transport operators and the general public to disregard the purported increase.”
It added, “We urge all Operators to comply with the existing Transport Fares and Station Welfare Committee to ensure compliance.”
