Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has indicated his preparedness to revitalise the once vibrant Juapong Textile Factory, now Volta Star Textile Factory.

This was during his campaign tour of some constituencies in the Volta Region including Juapong in the North Tongu, South Dayi, Afadzato and Ho West Constituencies.

Speaking at a Youth Connect event at the Juapong Methodist School Park, Dr. Bawumia, who is the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December 7 presidential elections said “we have more to do; one of my biggest priorities, is to revamp the Volta Star Textile Factory here in Juapong.”

He stressed, “We are going to save this factory with a new policy; that policy is called ‘Buy Ghana First’ policy; everything Ghana government is going to buy, we have to buy it in Ghana first to create the jobs in Ghana.”

“All our uniforms and so on, we will buy from the Volta Star Textile Factory to create the jobs for our people here”, he said.

Dr. Bawumia also promised to put in place effective measures to boost agriculture, to increase food production for the country to become self-sufficient.

“We are going to help our farmers; I’m going to focus on agriculture. Our farmers need help; they need irrigation, they need equipment, they need combined harvesters,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia also reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive development.

That, he said, was because it is impossible for the country’s progress to be sustained if a fraction of the populace is left out of the development agenda.

To this end, he has called on constituents of North Tongu to massively support his candidature and that of the party’s parliamentary candidate on December 7 to ensure that their needs are catered for.

The Acting Paramount Chief of the Dorfor Traditional Council and Chief of Podoe, Torgbui Ananse Kokoroko, who outlined some of the developmental challenges confronting the area, assured Dr. Bawumia of their support.
