Illegal Miners Invade Nuong Forest At Behest Of Politicians

Illegal miners mostly made up of foreign nationals have invaded the Nuong Forest located at the Tarkwa-Nsuaem area of the Western Region.

It is suspected that the illegal miners invaded the forest, especially areas that are legitimately for a company at the behest of some political players in Tarkwa-Nsuaem area.

The Nuong Forest has been the target of the illegal miners working for the powerful political players but the company that owns parts of the forest has been proactive in protecting the area.

Shockingly, the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) at a meeting passed a resolution that the Forestry Commission (FC) should withdraw security that was protecting the forest for the owners.

It appears that the whole move to withdraw security from the area was orchestrated to pave the way for the illegal miners to have unrestricted access to the forest.

The Inquisitor is in possession of videos and audios of the activities of the illegal miners destroying the Nuong forest with impunity.

It is instructive to know that portions of the Nuong Forest had been ceded to a company that was protecting the area together with the Forestry Commission.
However, the directive by the Tarkwa-Nsuaem MUSEC’s directive for the withdrawal of security from the Nuong Forest area has left the forest at the mercy of the illegal miners.

Initially, there were claims that the security that was protecting the Nuong Forest had engaged in an altercation with some locals, leading to the death of one of the locals.

That incident is suspected to be a springboard for those top politicians to call for the exit of the Forestry Commission guards to enable their workmen to enter the forest.

The Inquisitor is privy to some conversation between some of the illegal miners claiming they were well protected by their political godfathers to mine in the forest.

There are fears that the Nuong Forest will soon become a ‘desert’ because of the nature of the earthmoving equipment that the illegal miners are using for their activities.
