Imposing Daniel Arthur as the Next MCE on the People of Cape Coast will Breed Hatred and Apathy
“The future of our party is the success of our government and the success of our government is about our conduct, each one of us beginning with me the president, through the vice president, through the chief of staff, through the ministers and deputies, the executives the people we put as district chief executives, our conduct is what will determine the success of our government, jointly and severally if we conduct ourselves well, if we respect the wishes and aspirations of the Ghanaian people that brought us here today and comport ourselves with dignity, with humility, with humanity as people who have come to provide service to our nation that is the foundation that will allow us to build on victory upon victory for the future of our party” (Speech delivered by his Excellency the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at UCC delegates conference 2019).
Taking words from the president’s speech, the voices of the grassroots matter in the future of our party, but some national and regional executives want us to believe that the grassroots within the Cape Coast Metropolis, the only Metropolitan within the region, has no voice and their concerns matter less. NPP as a party rewards hardworking, commitment, loyalty and dedication to party’s work. The district, municipal and metropolitan chief executive from time has always been preserved for loyal and grassroots person to help the agenda and progress of the district and the party. Why must it be changed?

Why has it become difficult for executives within the region and some national executives to appreciate that imposing Daniel Arthur on the people of Cape Coast will not yield any result? Are they telling the people of Cape Coast that they don’t have the men and women who are capable of occupying the position of Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) other than Daniel Arthur?
Even 2016, when his own boss Lawyer Michael Arthur-Dadzie the parliamentary candidate for NPP Cape Coast South was contesting, he did not show up to support the course, or campaign for the party. People were adopting polling station when the national Campaign team led by Peter Mac Manu launched the adopt a polling station to ease the pressure on the constituency executives, one would expect him to help in that direction, he did not even vote in Cape Coast south 2016. Daniel Arthur who hails from Swedru and only voted in 2020 in Cape Coast South, He hardly spend his weekend in Cape Coast thereby, not attending party functions and other activities that gear towards winning more members for the elephant family. If is about appointing any person as MCE whether he/she does not hails from Cape Coast and has contributed towards the party then why is the regional executives and the former MCE not pushing for Richmond (Snr PRO) because he has worked in the Metropolis for several years and even served as the investment coordinator and the protocol officer of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly. He is very familiar with almost all the grassroots, if he does not qualify as MCE in Cape Coast Metropolis then Daniel Arthur who has not contributed a penny to the good Course of Cape Coast can’t be given such position. Is his credentials for party work was to sleep at collating center as agent for Agona East, then he should be sent to Agona East as the DCE. Sleeping at collating center and being a lawyer for Baduwa legal consult should not be a guarantee to lead as MCE. The people of Cape Coast deserve better and our president who is a listening president should listen to the people and act in faith of the people. Power reside with the people and by the people.
Are they telling the good people of Cape Coast that they have listening ears than the people who have lived all their lives in Cape Coast and have supported the party in diverse ways? Are they saying that the men and women, who have toiled for the party from both Cape Coast North and South, are not capable and that they are wisest people in the region to decide, and they determine who they can work with irrespective of the person’s ability, loyalty and long service? The NPP that we all believe in and worked tirelessly to bring the party to power support long service, loyalty, commitment and person known to grassroots. The MCE position has always being given to party faithful who had toiled and serve the party that well, that person is equally familiar with the executives within the party and at least know the grassroots.
Why are they bent on imposing Mr. Daniel Arthur as the next MCE for Cape Coast if not for greed, corruption and embezzlement?
By the insistence and actions of them to have Daniel Arthur, someone who do not have a touch with the base, do not understand the dynamics of Cape Coast politics and how to treat people with respect, they are telling the good people of Cape Coast and party faithfuls that it is useless and of no use to protect the structures and dynamics that help the people to choose. They should understand that the only proper thing they can bequeath to the people of Cape Coast is to respect the will of the people when it comes to majority processes. It does not lie with them to impose Daniel Arthur on the people of cape Coast
In they think that Daniel Arthur represented the party when the NDC MP for Cape Coast North, Kwamena Minta Nyarku, was challenged during the voter registration exercise at the Electoral Commission, (his only work done for the party within Cape Coast), then we want to remind them that hundreds of people within Cape Coast including lawyer Dr. Emmanuel Tuffour, Lawyer Amponsah Dadzie etc, since the formation of NPP in Cape Coast have contributed immensely and still contribute to the sustenance of the party in the Metropolis.
Appointing Daniel Arthur is worse as having Hon Ernest Arthur as MCE. Why? If someone who has been a former Constituency Chairman and knows the struggles the party goes through in managing its activities could starve the two constituencies upon becoming the Metropolitan Chief Executive for Cape Coast, and treating party executives, elders and grassroots with insults and contempt, one can only conclude that Daniel Arthur will do worse because it was Hon Ernest Arthur who sent the Curriculum Vitae of Daniel Arthur to Regional executives when the former after the 2020 general elections made it clear that he is no longer interested in becoming the MCE for the second time because he is eying the position of National Premix Coordinator.
They should tell us his contribution to two constituencies within the Metropolis? Daniel Arthur did not contribute a penny to the fundraising cocktail organized by the Cape Coast South constituency during the 2020 election. He was not seen in any house to house campaign or donating anything to support the party in both constituencies. The most worrying part of these imposition is that, most party delegates are asking questions on various platforms, about who he is, his advocates cannot till now produce his photograph and his involvement as a party man. To the extent that communicators and most of constituency executives are asking who he is, and where he is from.
Unless the national, regional and some constituency executives who have comprised their position for their selfish interest at the expense of the larger party want us to believe that the voices of the grassroots, party patrons, elders and some constituency executives do not matter in local decision making and grassroots should expect people pushing that agenda to come down to campaign in 2024 or count Cape Coast South and North out in both presidential and parliamentary election come 2024 and beyond.
At this point, what Cape Coast needs is a unifier not one who will continue the disrespect and disregard for party structures, allocate all contracts to himself to the detriment of the party that appointed him. To this end, they should be aware that imposing Daniel Arthur on the people of Cape Coast as the next MCE will only breeds hatred, confusion and creates distance between the grassroots and party leadership.
