“In Ashanti Region no need for Developmental projects, just give them T-shirt, they’ll vote for us because our T-shirts are Nice” – Napo

The Energy Minister was captured on tape saying this during a rally in the Kumawu constituency ahead of Tuesday's by election.

In a rather interesting twist to events leading up to the all awaited bye-election in Kumawu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Manhyia and Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has made a shocking statement that the party will win the bye-election in Kumawu and subsequent ones using just party T-Shirts without campaigning for votes.

“If we cannot organize campaign rallies, let’s use our money to print T-Shirts and distribute to our party faithful and everyone – after all, our NPP T-Shirts are beautiful and I don’t think anybody will be wearing them and go vote for another party,” he stated.

The Kumawu bye-election became necessary following the demise of the Member of Parliament for the area – the late Philip Attah Bassoah, leaving the seat vacant.

The two main political parties, the NPP and the NDC have over these few weeks been campaigning fiercely for the seat, with the NPP hoping to retain the seat and the NDC hoping to annex it.
