Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has vehemently denied accusations of arrogance, asserting instead that in Ghanaian political discourse, those who speak the truth are unfairly labelled as disrespectful, while those who deceive are often praised.

The controversy arose during his unveiling as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, when Napo sparked heated debate by proclaiming President Akufo-Addo’s achievements as unparalleled among Ghanaian presidents. This assertion immediately drew calls for retractions and apologies for comparing Akufo-Addo with Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

Napo underscored, “Since independence, from 1957, from Kwame Nkrumah till today, no government has worked harder than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”
