The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has paid a working visit to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to interact with personnel and assess their working conditions firsthand.

Upon his arrival, the Hon. Minister was welcomed with a ceremonial parade by officers of the Ghana Immigration Service. The GIS, whose mission is to build a stronger and better Ghana by implementing fair yet firm immigration controls that regulate and facilitate the movement of people through the country’s borders, commended the Minister for taking the time to visit them.

In his remarks at the ceremony, the Commissioner of the GIS welcomed the Minister on his first official visit to their premises. He assured the Minister of the Service’s full cooperation in efforts to enhance their operations.

Addressing the personnel, the Hon. Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the GIS in its mandate. “As a representative of His Excellency President Mahama, I want to assure you that we will work diligently to support you, ensuring that you are well-prepared to safeguard our borders and enhance national security,” he stated.

Hon. Muntaka commended the Controller and his team, particularly those working in intelligence, for their dedication and accuracy in providing daily security briefs. “Your role in national security is crucial, and I greatly appreciate your commitment to keeping Ghana safe,” he noted.

The Minister also highlighted the government’s intention to collaborate with the private sector to improve services within the Ministry of Interior. “You will witness increased Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) within the Ministry, ensuring that while these initiatives do not interfere with internal security, they will help generate revenue and improve services,” he explained.

Additionally, Hon. Muntaka emphasized the government’s push toward digital transformation. “Technology will be a key focus area. I can assure you that within the next year, no service within the Ministry of Interior will involve cash transactions. All payments for services will be done electronically to enhance efficiency and transparency,” he concluded.
