America demands impartial investigations into Mali’s reported Massacre; 200 persons allegedly killed
“Failure to provide a thorough and credible accounting of the facts and accountability will only serve to sow divisions in Malian society… and drive communities into the hands of violent extremist groups, and create conditions for more violence.”
The United States of America has called for impartial investigations into the reported massacre in Mali.
In a statement sighted by African Entertainment on its official website, the US State Department expressed concern over what it termed as an “extremely disturbing report” that many people had been killed in central Mali last week.
According to the statement, there were some conflicting accounts on the reported massacre blaming the “unaccountable” Russian Wagner group for many civilian deaths, while others pointed to the Malian armed forces targeting violent groups.
While calling for impartial investigations into the reported massacre, the statement further noted that “Failure to provide a thorough and credible accounting of the facts and accountability will only serve to sow divisions in Malian society… and drive communities into the hands of violent extremist groups, and create conditions for more violence.”
It would be recalled that over the weekend, the Malian army stated that it had killed over 200 combatants in an operation between 21 and 31 March.
The army made the announcement after allegations were made on social media that dozens of civilians had been massacred.
