Investigative: The Stolen Black Stool at Boso-Gua Traditional Area and what we know

Information available to this reporter from Boso, a town in the Asuogyaman district in the Eastern Region of Ghana has it that on Tuesday April 6, 2021, a group of people including the Abusuapayin of the Boso-Gua Traditional Area and the Abusuapayin of Tosen and one other person have been arrested by the police for their alleged involvement in the stealing of the Aduana Stool of Boso – the stool that is currently being occupied by Nana Adu Kwaku II, Gyaasehene of Boso.

Initial investigations have revealed that all the arrested persons have however been granted police enquiry bail to allow for further investigations into the matter by the police.

Interestingly, we are informed that the police have rounded up another group of people alleged to have broken into and vandalized the stool room of Som Asare Kwadwo VIII the Nifahene of Boso-Gua Traditional Area. They were alleged to have breaken into the Nifahene’s palace with the conivance of the same Gyaasehene Nana Adu Kwaku II and his Abusuapayin Kwadwo Agyei Opare who have now also been declared wanted by the Boso police for questioning. These are the same persons claiming that their stool has been stolen.

More interestingly, we have gathered that the alleged stolen Aduana Stool has been found in the custody of the Abusuapayin of Tosen. A very worrying situation considering the tension that has existed in the Boso-Gua community over the issue for sometime now.

This reporter is also reliably informed that the alleged stealing of the stool was infact, a customary statement that was made by one pilot by name Kofi Afunya who is also a heir to the Aduana stool. He is alleged to have openly stated that it was him who ordered what he termed as “the displacement of the stool” and not a theft as has been claimed by the Gyaasehene.

He argued that, he caused the “displacement” of the stool because of the very abysmal and disrespectful performance of Nana Adu Kwaku II the Gyaasehene. He indicated that, he ordered the stool to be brought back to it’s ancestral home at Tosen in accordance with the customs and traditions of the people. In his explanation, he further claimed that, the Gyaasehene’s inability to speak the native Gua language makes him insecure and suspicious of everyone in the Aduana family at Boso. And because of that, He has sidelined every other member of the family and rules with his mother and Abusuapayin only.

According to our investigations, per the tradition of the people, the stool must never under any circumstance cross the Volta River. However, under the reign of Nana Adu Kwaku II as Chief of the Aduana family and also the Gyaasehene of Boso-Gua, the Stool has disrespectfuly been carried across the Volta River.

The stool is now in the custody of the police at Akosombo on the other side of the Volta River. This has made some members of the Aduana family worried as it puts the Gyaasehene in a very serious position.

Some members of the community told this reporter in the cause of his investigations that they see the Gyaasehene Adu Kwaku II as a vindictive person wants to process those arrested to court and further cost them to be jailed at all cost. They also said that he seems in his bid to want to take his pound of flesh, to have forgotten the blood that would be spilled.

Reliably, we are informed that the elders of the Boso-Gua community are in the process of inviting the Akwamumanhene to intervene before the issue escalatea further.

From all indications, some of the people in the community who have spoken with us so far see the case as a chieftaincy dispute and hoped that it is treated as such.

“Because of my in-depth knowledge about issues of the community, I can confidently say that the root of all these matters lie in the long standing chieftaincy dispute that has gripped the Boso-Gua community for a very long time,” one of the opinion leaders told us.
