Samuel Abu Jinapor, Minister of Lands-designate, has said that corruption allegations made against him and another, while he was a Deputy Chief of Staff in 2017, surprised him.
According to him, the allegation by musician, Kwame Asare Obeng, alias A-Plus, that he and second deputy Chief of Staff, Francis Asenso Boakye were thieves, had surprised him.
“Those allegations were quite surprising to me but given that this committee is a committee of record what I can really say is that I found those allegations as quite surprising,” he said.
The response had come after Deputy Majority Leader, Alex Afenyo Markins raised the issue which was topical in January 2017.
A-Plus had alleged that Jinapor and Asenso Boakye had been using their positions at the Jubilee House to obscure a legal transaction at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital involving Stanbic Bank and Unibank.

The allegation had led to complaints to a Police investigation that would turn out to be a sham because the Director-General of CID at the time, Maame Tiwaa Addo Danquah, had been caught on a phone call secretly recorded by A-Plus, admitting that Jinapor and Asenso Boakye had indeed been corrupt.
However, rather than to probe the issue, Tiwaa was heard saying she was a fan of President Akufo-Addo and would rather A-Plus let the matter go as a pursuit of same would end up embarrassing the President.
The explosive revelations had led to a petition to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) by some groups, but CHRAJ only exonerated the two Deputy Chiefs of Staff.
