Is the Government of Ghana starving the Security Agents of funds because of the Bawku silent guns in October and November, 2023?
An Owula Mangortey observation...
From our observation and monitoring, there was silencing of Bawku guns in October and November, 2023 – except on 24th November, 2023, when there was a report of gunning down of a Moshie “yellow yellow” motor tricycle operator at Daduri.
Indeed, the good effort of the Bawku Security Agents – especially their non-kinectic interventions among the locals – reflected in the confidence of some locals from South Natinga to move comfortably and securely to attend a marriage ceremony at Possum, in the morning of 25th November, 2023.
Lack of funds for Security Operations
Ironically, the efforts of the Security Agents to silence the murderous guns of criminals in the Bawku general area coincides with what appears to be reckless negligence on the part of the Government of Ghana to starve the Security Agencies of funding for their operations!!
It is becoming easy for criminal armed groups in the Bawku general area to notice and communicate through the powerful RADIO VOR, the apparent funding challenges facing the Security Agents. This has likely dire consequences!
It must be pointed out to those who control resources in Accra that the remit of the Security Agents is not just about restoring security and peace to Bawku, but significantly, it is more of Intelligence-led operations to counter and deter terrorists and cross-border armed groups.
The signs and signals of lack of attention and care of the Security Agents began to emerge from May, 2023, when a Defence Intelligence official in an Upper East Region border community borrowed money from a civilian, and for over seven months continues to find it difficult to honour his promise to pay back.
When Security Agents deployed on counter-terrorism operations begin to con civilians for money, they
begin to send signals of their weak links to TAGs!
Review Defence Intelligence Deployments
By the way, may the Chief of Defence Staff explain why the Defence Intelligence HQ deploys relatively inexperienced DIOs on counter-terrorism operations in border communities in the five regions in the ‘North,” and keeps experienced hands in Accra and Kumasi – to drink large kegs of alcohol and sleep with women with fat backsides, while they engage in mere reporting on what politicians are saying and doing?
Does the CDS not realise that the heavy lifting to be done by Defence Intelligence is in the five regions in the North?
The Chief of Defence Staff needs to consider an urgent review, reassignment and repositioning of DIOs in the border communities of the five regions of the northern sector.
The challenges of Ghana in 2024 and 2025 shall be the high cost of maintaining National Stability/Security. Those who control the national purse in Accra ought to realise this truth!
As I always maintain, our National Security/Stability is like a mother we can’t betray!
Be advised accordingly.
I shall return.
