It has been 7 wasted years under Akufo-Addo govt – Mahama
“Wasted years! We bequeathed to the Akufo-Addo gov’t two new oil fields, TEN and Sankofa. Greed and ineptitude as against national interest mean a sad reality of no additional production activity in our upstream oil sector in the last 7 years.”
Former President John Dramani Mahama has said the past seven years under the Akufo-Addo administration have gone waste, especially in the energy sector.
Mr Mahama indicated that he left behind two new oil fields, the Tweneboa Enyenra Ntomme (TEN) and Sankofa fields.
But, he said, no additional production activities have been undertaken in upstream in the last seven years.
In a tweet, Mr Mahama said “Wasted years! We bequeathed to the Akufo-Addo gov’t two new oil fields, TEN and Sankofa. Greed and ineptitude as against national interest mean a sad reality of no additional production activity in our upstream oil sector in the last 7 years.”
Earlier, Mr Mahama has said his administration stabilized the Ghanaian economy with policies and programmes at the time that President Akufo-Addo was taking over from him in 2017.
He said Mr Akufo-Addo only needed to continue from where he left the economy but has squandered all the gains.
Speaking at the Chatham House on Friday, January 27, he said “When President Akufo-Addo came we had achieved economic stability. All they needed was to continue from there but unfortunately, this is where they have led us to.”
Mr Mahama further indicated that the mistake of his administration was failing to drum home the achievements.
He said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) assumed that Ghanaians would see the projects he had taken.
“We were not forceful in letting the people see what we had done, we assumed they would see. We did quite a lot,” he said.
He added that “maybe next time if we get the chance, our leaders should make it a point to let the people know what we have done.”
His address was on the theme “Africa’s Strategic Priorities & Global Role”.
